Good Skin Care > Excellent Make up

Hey kikay girls! How are you taking care of your skin these days?

Manila weather goes for the extreme at times, so sunshine-y on the first day, then it's pouring like crazy on the second day. And with the stress, dust and pollution, come the cry of our skin for help!

This is coming from a girl who commutes via bus, train (MRT = Character formation program of the Philippines/ Patience Building Advocacy of RP) and jeep on a daily basis, so I tend to be melodramatic with all the pollution at times :)

But whether you're a girl on commute, have your own car, or just simply walking, we all need a basic skincare regimen, especially when we reach our 20s. And I do advocate good skin care regimen over excellent make up any day.

So for this post, I just wanted to share some tips on how to take care of that skin with the help of some brands worth raving.

I think I have low tolerance for pain, so never pa ako nagpafacial :P I have heard tear-stained stories about it, and my skin is really sensitive so it's prolly not for me anytime soon :)

So the tips ahead are all pain-free and affordabells!

Step 1: Keep it clean!

Nature Republic's Herb Dressing Foam Cleanser

Since my high school days, I have been a Pond's girl. I mean who wasn't? Then there came Dove, Olay, and the occasional organic brands proclaiming that they're the absolute best in the skincare scene.

Then last year, when I went to Davao, a friend introduced me to Coogi, another Korean brand, whose facial wash was really good on my skin that has kept me bugging her months after to ask her to buy me ze facial wash.

...And that was the start of my love affair with Korean skincare products.

Korean brands have been sprouting like mushrooms in the country for the past years, because simply when it comes to skincare, their luminous faces and smooth skin are enough testimonies that these guys know what they're talking about.

My absolute favorite Korean brand? Nature Republic.

Their product right here, Herb Dressing, is the cleanser that I use because it is specially formulated for sensitive skin. It's also quite milky in texture so I think it fits combination skin which I also have -- oily on the T-zone and dry on the cheek area). :)

Just like knowing your body type is the key to choosing the right clothes, knowing your skin type is the first step in choosing the right product.

Here's a simple way to find out what skin type do you have:

Step 2: Keep it smooth!
After cleansing, I use either one of these two products at least once or twice a week to smooth away whiteheads, blackheads and dead skin.

Nature Republic's Skin Smoothing Green Apple Peeling Gel

How to use: After washing your face, dab this gel lightly on your forehead, cheeks, nose and chin. And then rub it lightly against your skin until it starts to carry with it the impurities, dirt and dead skin. In short, para shang libag-away regimen :P Hehe!

Do these for about two minutes then rinse it off with warm water. Then dry your face with a clean towel. The first time my sister and I used this, we both felt our faces smoother and softer after! :) Achieved!

Snoe Beauty's Star Night, Star Bright Toner

When I get a little lazy doing the one above, I use this toner instead. From a local and proudly-Pinay brand, Snoe Beauty, comes this little bottle of wonder that helps lighten your skin, tighten your pores and firms up those wrinkles.

Ever heard of acai berry? It's the IT BERRY :) I once read about this back in college when we were doing our final project for marketing and we were supposed to think of a product that we want to sell. It's all just ideas, and mine was this: Green tea + Acai berry drink!

Acai berry is such a powerful antioxidant so it's excellent for the skin. Thus, more and more brands are including this ingredient in their products :)

How to use: After washing your face, dab it dry with a clean towel, then using a cotton, pour drops of the toner on the cotton (just like most toner, this is very watery in texture) then sweep the toner on your face in an upward motion.

Just don't overdo it because toners have a tendency to dry the skin. So one or two sweeps per area and you're good to go.

And the great thing about it? Is that it has a lovely smell that relaxes and soothes you to sleep. It's a night toner, that's why, so it's also formulated to help you catch up on those zzzzzs.

Step 3: Keep it moist!
As noted in Step 2, the tendency in using a peeling product and a toner is that the skin tends to lose moisture. So the next step is to moisturize!

Fresh Green Tea moisturizer

How to use: Using your index finger, apply this cooling moisturizer on your face after Step 2. Depending on the areas of your skin that are drier than the rest, you can put more on those areas since this moisturizer is very light so your face don't  end up sticky and icky after :)

Lovely, isn't it?

Polynesia Hydro Eye Cream

The skin around our eyes is very sensitive, so it's better to use a separate moisturizer for our peepers. I just started using this hydro eye cream around 3 weeks ago and it's actually a little thicker so you just have to put it thinly on the skin around your eyes during day and night. During day (before putting on concealer), and night (after cleansing and toning).

Step 4: ZZZZZZZZs
The age-old recipe for clear healthy skin is getting enough rest :) Yes, we have heard it all before but it is very important that for our age, we get at least 6-8 hours sleep a day.

Step 5: Let the skin breathe...
There are days that I give my skin a day-off from the regular make up even at the office. Then I just put lipstick to add color to my face and I notice that my skin is smoother the next day :)

You could try it: Even for just one day a week, let your skin breathe by not putting anything on it, lest for a day moisturizer.

So there, those are just some things that you may want to try to keep your skin healthy and happy!

Feel free to share your skincare regimen by typing away on the comment fields below too! :)

Passionately Curious

Here is the post I wrote years ago! I echoed here what I learned from the 2 speakers, Tricia Gosingtian and Ana Santos. Tricia is a fashion blogger, so there's a part of the event in which we all had to pick out and model the outfits from Bayo then Tricia picked out winners from the attendees. So the event started with that then went into the specifics of fashion blogging then writing in general. :) Hope you'll pick up a few writing nuggets! Happy reading and writing!

It's Perfectly Fine Not to Say Anything

Last weekend, we went to this Starbucks branch in Tagaytay and it was really lovely. It was situated below a steep driveway, and unless you know where to look, it would be quite easy to miss. But it's a spacious lot -- with glass doors, paintings, couches, benches and wooden architecture -- it may just be my favorite Starbucks by far.
