Read Faves: A Praying Life

Sometimes you come across a book that just really touched you that you can't help but share it other people... And this book right here just did that for me.

I haven't been an avid reader lately, so when Christine--our small group leader--told us that we will be going through "A Praying Life" by Paul Miller, I just nodded my head to signal "okay." I was not exactly excited to discuss prayer especially when I have not been very diligent in praying lately. It's like getting caught that you did not do your homework! Yikes!

But after squeezing one chapter between working and eating, I was just swept by the simplicity on how it tackled prayer.

This book was amazingly simple, and maybe it is this simplicity that the world of complex structures, highfalutin words and pretense just needs. The book reminded me that  prayer is supposed to be like a dinner with good friends. And dinner with your closest friends is something I can totally relate to! Because it is such a release, it's fun, it's interesting, it's spontaneous... it feels home...

And that is what praying should be about. It should feel like coming home.

We just finished the first 4 chapters and I look forward to reading the rest! Curious? Here are some of my favorite lines in the book:
"The criteria for coming to Jesus is weariness. Come overwhelmed with life. Come with your wandering mind. Come messy."
"The quest for a contemplative life can actually be self-absorbed, focused on my quiet and me. If we love people and have the power to help then we are going to be busy. Learning to pray doesn't offer us a less busy life; it offers us a less busy heart. In the midst of outer busyness we can develop an inner quiet. Because we are less hectic on the inside, we have a greater capacity to love..."
"Since a praying life is interconnected with every part of our lives, learning to pray is almost identical to maturing over a lifetime. What does it feel like to grow up? It is a thousand feelings on a thousand different days. That is what learning to pray feels like."
Bitin ba? :P I actually tried looking for a free e-book but I couldn't find one, but do grab a copy at Amazon :) Hehe! Happy reading, learning and applying!

Bridal Shower Ideas

Hey pretty ladies! Throwing a bridal shower for your dear friend soon? Here are some ideas that you may want to explore :)

i love You

Just sneaking in a post to share how God has been good to me all my life :) Somehow, no matter how much I try or anyone tries, I haven't felt loved and I couldn't love the way God loves me. When I talk to people and I try to describe God's love, every analogy falls short... simply because His love is just so much more intense and it's unconditional. For this post, I want to share the role that love plays in allowing God to be the Lord of my life. :) When we talk about Lordship, it usually entails a sharp intake of breath and begrudgingly opening our hands to release something that we have held on for too long... but Lordship can also be a natural response to what is already made complete in us. Lordship, at its best, is an expression of love. :)

So You Had a Bad Day

Last Friday, I caught myself getting irritated by the second as I get one bad update after the next at work - confirming either low performance for the month or delay in our campaign activities. I just wanted nothing more but to call it a day and go home...  But since that wasn't an option, I just watched a movie (yup on my own :P) and stuffed my mouth with Taters potato chips (cheese flavor!) and Jamaican pattie (cheesy beef!) later that afternoon. Yup, that made me feel a little better after! We all go through this kind of day, and so soon after ringing in the new year with our hopes and goals too!  Tsktsk! So as I dragged myself to take on the hours that day, I knew that I had to snap out of it and be wary, lest I find myself stuck in the limbo of the daily activities.
